Notion AI Review (2026) — Bottley's Honest Take
Our Verdict
Good if you already pay for Notion. Not a reason to switch to Notion, and not a replacement for Claude or ChatGPT for reasoning tasks.
Try Notion AI →The Bundling Advantage
Notion AI's primary advantage is integration. If you already live in Notion for documentation, project management, and knowledge management, having AI in the same environment eliminates context switching. Ask questions about your workspace content, generate summaries of meeting notes, draft content from outlines — without leaving Notion. This convenience has real value for Notion-native workflows.
What It Does Well
Notion AI handles: summarizing long documents, drafting structured content from bullet points, Q&A over workspace pages, and generating content in Notion's block format. The workspace Q&A feature is genuinely useful — ask "what did we decide about X" and Notion AI searches your notes and returns cited answers. This is a meaningful capability that Claude and ChatGPT cannot replicate without a document upload every session.
What Claude Does Better
Claude handles complex reasoning, multi-document analysis, long-context tasks, and nuanced writing substantially better than Notion AI. The quality gap is noticeable on anything requiring synthesis or judgment rather than retrieval. Notion AI is strong on information retrieval from a specific workspace; Claude is stronger on understanding and reasoning over that information.
Chip used to recommend Notion AI as a ChatGPT replacement. That was wrong when he said it, and it remains wrong. They serve different functions.
The Honest Verdict
At $10/month on top of an existing Notion plan, Notion AI is worth it for heavy Notion users. It reduces friction on routine documentation and retrieval tasks. It is not worth switching to Notion for, and it is not a primary AI tool for serious work. Bottley uses it for workspace documentation queries; uses Claude for everything requiring reasoning.
